What Teaching Means to us & celebrating World Teacher’s Day at Children’s Oasis Nursery

For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. Knowing how important the first five years of a child’s life are to their development and future is a key reason why I chose to be an early years’ teacher.

Time and again, studies have shown that the first five years in a child’s life are critical for development. The experiences children have in these crucial years play a vital role in fostering a lifelong love of learning, build confidence and emotional intelligence – all skills that will and ultimately shape type of adults that they will become.

UN World Teacher’s Day is a great day which serves as a reminder of the important role we play in helping to shape these little people’s lives.

Sometimes when I tell people that I am an early years’ teacher, I’m met with: “That’s such an easy job”; or: “It must be fun to get paid to sit and play with children”. In reality, there is so much more to our jobs than just sitting and “playing”.

Not only do children learn whilst they are playing, we as teachers also spend hours upon hours researching how to make these play experiences interesting, where to find the resources we need to carry out our lessons and how we can continue to build on the experiences so children can learn meaningful lessons from them. We aren’t “just” teachers. We are nurses, builders, photographers, nurturers, mediators, cooks, story tellers, and so much more.

World Teacher’s Day is a day where we truly feel appreciated. It’s a day that reminds us why we have chosen this as our career path and while we also have a lot of fun working with the children – and each other – we are reminded of why it is so very important.

We will always have extremely fond and treasured memories of our girls time at Children’s Oasis. The teachers are so creative and fun, always thinking of new ways to engage the children and the thoughtful and varied outdoor areas were always a favourite of theirs. We loved the intimate, friendly feel and all the little extras which makes it feel that you are part of a community. Thanks for everything, we really couldn’t have asked for a better start and we will miss you all.

What I love about Children's Oasis is how well looked after my children are and how comfortable they feel. They know the names of most of the staff and will always say 'hi' and often stop for a chat. It's a calm and nurturing environment.

We love children’s Oasis Nursery. It has been a part of our lives for over 8 years with both our girls going there. The staff are all amazing and really care for the children.

Both my boys were at Children Oasis from the time they were 2 and until they were 4 years old; first attending the Spanish Programme and then, FS1. Both classes were great! The teachers are incredibly professional and caring. The communication with the parents is excellent and reports are detailed. They make learning fun and engaging for the kids who learn through hands-on activities and play. The facilities are beautiful with lots of stimulating and educational books and toys. I couldn't ask for more during those early years for my children!
