Over 100 Dubai preschoolers – aged between 18 months to 4 years – supported by their parents and teachers at Children’s Oasis Nursery have come together to pledge over 150 boxes to the UAE Box Appeal project, a homegrown initiative that sees members of the community gather daily necessities such as t-shirts and toiletries in boxes to donate to UAE-based workers. Launched in 2008, the Box Appeal which uses the tagline, Small Box, Big Difference has grown year on year and this year, aims to distribute over 20,000 boxes to more than 20,000 workers across the UAE and region.
According to officials at Children’s Oasis Nursery, the nursery’s participation in the Box Appeal this year is both in the spirit of the UAE Year of Giving, 2017 and is also in line with their ethos to help grow and develop caring and community focused children.
“Our aim at Children’s Oasis Nursery is to give children a flying start in life, and this very much includes instilling the values of compassion, empathy and cooperation,” said Caitriona Ni Fhiannachta, Head of Teacher at Children’s Oasis Nursey. “Through the Box Appeal, our children – with the assistance and guidance of both their teachers and parents – were able to be actively involved in giving back and through this process, were also able to learn valuable lessons that we hope they will take with them long into the future.”
Among the children and parents involved was 3-year-old Massimo along with mother, Chitra: “It was heartwarming to see Massimo’s keenness to fill up the box and his understanding of how little acts go a long way into helping others. As a mother, you hope that your children learn and live these values and for me, the whole experience reinforced the importance of actively participating in giving back to the community. Participating in initiatives such as Box Appeal helps me to teach Massimo to be compassionate by showing and being an example to him.”
“Early experiences lay the foundation of a child’s personality and including such initiatives as The Box Appeal into their learning experiences, goes a long way in making them responsible members of the community,” added Ms Ni Fhiannachta. “We wish the organizers of The Box Appeal the best of luck in the final days of the campaign and hope that in some small way, the children’s contribution has made a difference.”
We will always have extremely fond and treasured memories of our girls time at Children’s Oasis. The teachers are so creative and fun, always thinking of new ways to engage the children and the thoughtful and varied outdoor areas were always a favourite of theirs. We loved the intimate, friendly feel and all the little extras which makes it feel that you are part of a community. Thanks for everything, we really couldn’t have asked for a better start and we will miss you all.
What I love about Children's Oasis is how well looked after my children are and how comfortable they feel. They know the names of most of the staff and will always say 'hi' and often stop for a chat. It's a calm and nurturing environment.
We love children’s Oasis Nursery. It has been a part of our lives for over 8 years with both our girls going there. The staff are all amazing and really care for the children.
Muchas gracias Children's Oasis!!!
Both my boys were at Children Oasis from the time they were 2 and until they were 4 years old; first attending the Spanish Programme and then, FS1. Both classes were great! The teachers are incredibly professional and caring. The communication with the parents is excellent and reports are detailed. They make learning fun and engaging for the kids who learn through hands-on activities and play. The facilities are beautiful with lots of stimulating and educational books and toys. I couldn't ask for more during those early years for my children!
